I was genuinely looking forward to writing a piece this week. I really was. I had a topic all picked out (which maybe I’ll do next week), and had just DMed a great D&D session with a fun group. I was super hyped to write the post.
Then, in my various trawls of the internet, I saw that Wizards of the Coast apparently made some unannounced sensitivity changes to the core D&D books earlier this year. (Source is this Alphastream article, which has numerous great examples.) And I was super excited! Some of these changes are very near and dear to my heart, such as moving phylacteries away from just being tefillin. Others are just cool to see in terms of the game moving forward.
And then I ruined everything by going and reading the comments on the Reddit post about it.
I don’t recommend reading the top comments. I’m not going to quote them here either. They’re disgusting and exhausting and I really thought the community was better than this, somehow. But apparently it’s not.
So today, I’m not particularly inclined towards writing a blog post about RPGs. Today, my blog post about RPGs is, “Hey D&D players: touch grass and talk to an actual minority for once in your idiotic lives.” Today, I honestly feel embarrassed to be part of this hobby.
Thanks for reading! If you feel differently, you’re welcome to leave a comment by shoving it right up your asshole.
