The best four days of history are officially upon us – as the first weekend in August table top gamers descend upon Indianapolis Indiana for the annual GenCon gaming convention kicks off.
Anyone who knows me well knows that the sea of nerds and I don’t get along well, but this being the start of my third year I find myself looking forward to the now familiar faces.
Our Focus is on Pen & Paper Games
ETG is laser focused on the pen and paper games, and while we can see the newest games from popular developers and incredible new card games, we are inevitably drawn to friendships built slowly over the shared love of this hobby.
Unlike last year, this year did not start with being locked out of our vehicle – in fact there was no vehicle trouble at all. But we did volunteer for a very physical trade off: to save money we sought accommodations farther away and with the convention being sold out every day this year we walked. And walked. And you guessed it; walked some more. Nearly 20,000 steps by the end of day one, and three more days to go.
Let’s Welcome Luke
But today hasn’t been fruitless. We’ve made a few special changes to our press team for the convention by bringing on Luke, a man that has been facilitating and game mastering the Michigan convention circuit since 2012 but cut his teeth in dungeons and dragons 3.x and was a mainstay at his FLGS (favorite local game store).
A self proclaimed professional schmoozer with a penchant for clackity-clack math rocks (dice) and in game drama, he adds a professional and personal flair to our team.
As we greet old friends and throw Luke to the wolves it’s our intention to touch base with those fellow creators we have started to build friendships with. Of course this comes with some ribbing as Alphinius Goo of Gooey Cube for his miraculous skills of ALWAYS BEING TOO BUSY!
(Alphinius, if you see this, we got your back no matter what)
The Night and Days Ahead
The night life is about to start now that the exhibitor hall has closed its doors for the evening (a few hours ago. ) and I look forward to updating everyone as the weekend continues to commence. The ENnie awards Friday are always a highlight, and the connections we make along the way are unforgettable.
