There are a whole lot of submissions for the 2022 ENnie awards this year; submissions started May 1st, of 2021 and ran all the way through April 30, 2022. So not only is there an entire years worth of submissions to consider, there is a years worth of content to sort through and attempt to muddle through what we think could be real contenders.
I think one of the coolest features about the ENnie awards is that it isn’t just limited to new games by publishers, but it also includes websites, blogs, podcasts, supplements, adventures, accessories, tools, and a very ambiguous ‘other’ category that publishers and content producers can submit to. However to keep things rather narrow in scope, I would like to focus on core rulebooks simply because we do support smaller and independent publishers and new game systems that haven’t broken through the big two’s dominate market position.
This year, there have been 246 core rulebooks submitted to the ENnie awards by 146 different pushlishers. A few of the publishers have submitted updated rule books such as second editions, while others have submitted entire catalogs of games that have been released since the ENnie submissions have began.
Some of my more recent favorite game systems have previously won the ENnie award, and some of my favorite games are actually up for consideration this year. Games like MÖRK Borg by Free League Publishing won in recent years, and Thirsty Sword Lesbians by Evil Hat Productions, or Wanderhome by PossumCreekGames are up for consideration in 2022
